The university is one of the most popular in the UK, partly because of its excellent reputation, and partly because Bristol is an attractive city with a great social scene. Most of the university's main buildings are located within a few minutes' walk of each other in a lively part of the city centre, which is itself only a 30-minute walk from the student residences in leafy Stoke Bishop.

Accommodation is guaranteed for new full-time undergraduate students during their first year of study in Bristol, provided that they return the accommodation form by the given deadline, they firmly accept their offer of study by the given deadline, and are unaccompanied.

Recent projects include a new home for the careers service and the launch of the student union information point. The largest estate investment programme in the university's history is currently under way, with £200m-worth of projects due to be completed by 2016. A £54m life sciences building, which will provide new teaching facilities and research laboratories for biological sciences and related disciplines, is due to open early in 2014. A new 327-bedroom hall of residence at the Stoke Bishop site and a new public transport hub will be ready for the 2014 intake, and a rolling programme of refurbishment is under way to modernise other existing halls. A £28m redevelopment and redesign of the Richmond building, which houses the student union, will be completed in 2014, providing space for new club, society and studio spaces, as well as an extended cafe bar and refurbished swimming pool.

Students have access to free Wi-Fi across the campus and city. New learning techniques include the Bristol ChemLabS Dynamic Laboratory Manual allowing students to carry out "virtual" experiments and practise lab techniques, and e-Biolabs resources, which help students prepare for lab sessions.
