State-of-the-art facilities and a focus on real world learning mean that you’ll get so much more from your degree at the University of Derby.

Our excellent links with local employers and our great campus facilities will ensure you get every opportunity to prepare yourself for the world of work – you’ll get hands-on practical experience while you study, with options for work placements, study abroad and volunteering. That’s why more than 96% of our students enter employment or further study within six months of finishing their degree.

Investing in the future

We have some of the newest and best facilities in the country and have invested nearly £150m in the past ten years. Our learning facilities include:

·         purpose-built law court

·         fine dining restaurant

·         clinical skills suite

·         crime scene house

·         working theatre

·         recording studios.

In September 2015 we will unveil our new £10m sports centre which provides facilities for competitive and social sport as well as our sports courses. It features a 70-station gym, separate fitness and cycling studios, squash courts, eight badminton courts, climbing wall and high performance centre.

Our Buxton Campus is located in the historic Devonshire Dome, a tourist attraction in its own right. This is the home of our spa and many of our tourism and events courses – we are in the top 5 UK University for degrees in Hospitality, Event Management and Tourism (Guardian University Guide 2016).

Many of our courses are accredited by professional organisations, including the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Chartered Institute of Marketing and the College of Occupational Therapists – so you can be sure you’ll have the skills and experience employers are looking for when you graduate.

Student life

Derby is a great place to live and study. Compact and easy to get around, it’s only an hour and a half by train from London. Birmingham, Nottingham and Sheffield are all within easy reach. For nights out you can join in with events at the Students’ Union-run Academy Bar on the Kedleston Road site or sample one of the many bars or nightclubs in town. For a more cultural experience, you can take in a show at the University-owned Derby Theatre or visit QUAD, a centre for arts and film.

Our Buxton Campus is located in this vibrant market town on the edge of the Peak District National Park so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in clubs and societies with an outdoor flavour. In the town you’ll find a good selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and Buxton Opera House hosts a variety of performances including theatre, comedy, music and dance.

Come to an Open Day

Come and discover the University of Derby at an Open Day. You’ll get the chance to meet our staff and students, take a tour of our facilities and accommodation and attend talks to find out more about our courses, how to apply, fees and accommodation.
